Mom's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

My all time favorite cookies are my Mom's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I have been eating these cookies for as long as I can remember.  Not only are these cookies incredible hot out of the oven, but you can add everything but the kitchen sink to them to change the taste to your liking.  This recipe will yield about 4 dozen 2 - 2.5 inch cookes.

• 2/3 cup Crisco
• 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
• 3/4 cup Sugar
• 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
• 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
• 2 teaspoon Baking Powder
• 2 Eggs
• 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 16 ounce bag of chocolate chips
• 2/3 cup sour milk (see #1 below)
• 1 Tablespoon Vinegar
• 2 cups Rolled Oats
• 2 cups sifted Flour
• 2 Tablespoons Apple Sauce - optional
• 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter - optional
• 1 cup Raisins - optional

Instructions:

1. To sour the milk, add one Tablespoon of the vinegar to the milk and set aside
2. Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees
3. Blend Crisco, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and salt
4. ****Optional****  Add peanut butter and apple sauce if desired
5. Add sour milk and rolled oats, mix thoroughly
6. Sift the balance of the dry ingredients together (flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon)
7. Add dry ingredients to the mixture.  Stir in the chocolate chips, nuts and raisins if desired
8. Drop a teaspoon of cookie mixture onto either a greased cookie sheet or a non-stick cookie sheet.  Bake 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees

I guess these cookies are slightly healthy for you. I don't really care, they are so good!
